Configuration management involves adding new devices to the system, their configuration, troubleshooting, and problems that result. RS/6000 systems include support for several buses, such as the Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) and Industry Standard Architecture (ISA), as well as new devices that are different from the ones that are supported on the microchannel-based RS/6000 systems.
AIX system configuration architecture and methodology uses information stored in the Object Data Manager (ODM) database to configure devices. The configuration of devices which do not support automatic configuration, for example non-native ISA devices, must be performed manually. This chapter includes step-by-step procedures on how to configure devices on the PCI-based RS/6000 servers.
