- Perform a back up of your system using mksysb. Make sure that you
exclude the /tmp file system from your backup. In addition to this you must
backup all your user file system in your rootvg.
- Check out your smit.log for any errors during your backup operation.
- With the mksysb tape you have just made, perform the following
tasks:
- Create a listing of the contents of the tape.
- Verify that your backup contains all the files.
- Find out the block size of the tape when you took your backup.
- Using your mksysb tape, find out the date when it was saved.
- Verify that you can boot off this mksysb tape.
- Restore /etc/hosts and /etc/filesystems file from your mksysb
tape.
- Save your rootvg using the savevg command and use a separate
tape for backup.
- Try restoring your rootvg from your mksysb tape using the restvg
command.
- Create a raw logical volume and save your raw logical volume using the
dd command.
- Use backup, restore, and tar commands to
backup your user file systems.
